Welcome to the Westside Free Store Ministries webpage. What is the Westside Free Store Ministries? The Free Store is a communal resource for people in central Ohio. Goods, such as clothing, toys, books, and home decor are donated and then given out to people who need them. There is a limit on the number of items you can receive each month and you must first join before you can shop. It is easy to join. Just call 614-351-5480 or stop by during open hours. The Free Store is located on the north side of the street at 3030 Sullivant Avenue, across from Wendy-s. Our friendly staff of volunteers will greet you and offer help you might need. The Westside Free Store Ministries welcomes your support.
Clothing, toys, books, household items, and small appliances -- all in
good repair and able for others to use -- can be delivered to the
store-s back door (in the alley behind the store) during working hours.
Signage indicates the delivery door. Please refrain from leaving items
when the store is not open. Also, at this time, we cannot accept
furniture. Currently our volunteers come from 24 different Christian congregations, representing a number of different denominations or movements. Though 14 of these congregations are United Methodists, our volunteers also come from Lutheran churches, the Church of God, Xenos Fellowship. World Harvest Church, Northwest Bible Church, a number of Roman Catholic churches, Baptist churches, Pentecostal churches and United Church of Christ churches. Volunteers also come from five area high schools, fulfilling their community service requirements, and from other community groups such as Hilltop Kiwanis and the Klemesrud Foundation. A number of our volunteers come from one of several area AA groups, seeking to give back to their neighborhood. In short, we are a diverse group of people seeking to serve God through the ministries of the Westside Free Store Ministries. Our doors are kept open by our faithful volunteer staff. We have no paid staff. Volunteers serve in many ways, from staffing the store floor to serving as greeters of our hospitality center, from registering new friends to checking those friends out when shopping is completed, from sorting donated items to cleaning the facility, from data entry to childcare. Volunteers have offered ESL and SSL classes, shared prayer time and worship opportunities, basic health screening and simple friendship. YOU can become a supporter of the Westside Free Store Ministries and engage with others in the message of an economy of abundance that God has provided. Our philosophy is simple: we share resources, build relationships, and create Christian Community. Everything belongs to God and nothing useful should ever go to waste. If you would like to volunteer, please contact us during store hours or call 614-351-5480 and leave your name and phone number. MembershipYou are welcome to sign up to become a member of the Westside Free Store Ministries and shop at the Free Store. Please visit the Free Store during our working hours. You will be greeted at the front desk where a volunteer will explain how you can participate in no cost shopping of our clothing, books, toys, household goods, and small appliances. Because we as a community of members all utilize the store, it is important to know that there are monthly limits that each member can obtain. Everyone is welcome as all people matter to God. |
